Our fourth art exhibition in Station Master’s House, ‘Entropy’ is by abstract painter Stuart Jones. We first saw Stuart’s work when we visited his studio in Letchworth Garden City back in 2023. We were looking for large abstract works for a corporate project in Birmingham and Stuart’s work was perfect.

Stuart works mainly on large canvases, using a variety of different media including spray paint, oil, household and image transfer. He ‘attacks’ the canvas, building up layers and pushing each painting to the point of destruction, before bringing it back to something he feels happy with.

Inspired largely by the landscape, Stuart records his walks and runs through rural and urban environments, documenting interesting angles and perspectives. He’s an avid researcher, citing Robert Macfarlane’s book ‘Underland’ as a key inspiration which led him to explore the concept of what lies beneath and portals.

To coincide with ‘Entropy’ we also presented a selection of Stuart’s paintings in The Stable at Tewinbury Farm, where we held an art supper club with Stuart present to discuss his work.
