Two floors above the hustle and bustle of one of Hertford’s busiest hair salons, Millie Yates has created a chic oasis of calm and serenity with her gorgeous new salon, Beauty Associates. Read on to find out more, including a special reader discount…
Millie trained locally in Ware as a beauty therapist but it’s her travels around Australia and New Zealand, working in various salons, that have really informed her ideas for the Hertford salon, which is less TOWIE and more about a natural look, using products that boast impressive and proven ingredients.
So when Millie invited Coco and I in for a pedicure we literally jumped at the chance for some mother-daughter pampering time!
To begin with our nails were trimmed and filed, feet exfoliated, then wrapped in hot towels to ease tension and soften the skin. Millie doesn’t use foot baths as she has concerns about their hygiene (some UK salons she has worked in use bleach in between clients which is hardly nurturing to our skin!). So instead, as part of her standard Waterless Pedicure treatment, Millie has included a natural paraffin wax treatment which was sooooo relaxing…. (incredibly, this treatment dates back to Roman Empire). First Millie places your feet in warm bags of wax, then adds hot towels so you can relax as the benefits kick in.
The wax traps the heat against your skin as it hardens, opening the pores. Paraffin is a natural emollient so it adds moisture to the skin while the wax is applied, but it also helps create moisture in your skin long after the treatment is complete, creating a sort of barrier that helps retain the oils that your body naturally produces. Afterwards my skin felt gorgeously soft and plump, ready for more relaxation with a foot massage.
Next is the fun bit – choosing a colour. Of course we were spoilt for choice with the range of nail varnishes on offer, but Coco opted for a hot pink and I went for a classic red. Millie uses O.P.I varnishes due to their durability. They are a high quality, long lasting varnish with a beautiful finish.
Millie also offers gel nails (which last much longer, around 3 weeks) and has an impressive collection of glitters and nail art.
Although I don’t want to wish the rest of the summer away, I am already thinking about sparkly Christmas nails….
The perfect pampering pedi, our skin felt soft as silk and toes looked fabulous; we could easily have spent all day there.
Beauty Associate’s Waterless Pedicure is £35. Millie offers a range of Nail treatments, waxing, lashes and eyebrows, plus a few men’s grooming treatments. She is currently investigating different brands and products to offer facials, so watch this space….
